Our team are encouraged to stop by whenever they feel the need to meet and ask questions, discuss suggestions, and address problems or concerns with management. Our open door policy serves to foster an environment of collaboration, high performance, and mutual respect between the Directors and employees of Bates Office. We empower our staff to make their own decisions. The Directors strongly believe this improves efficiency, productivity, growth, and ethical standards.

Managing Director - Michael Edmonds

Michael has in excess of 30 years hands on experience gained from the office supplies, interiors and print industries, with specific skills in product, performance, stakeholder performance and marketing and sales management.

Successes and achievements are based on a passion for people development and empowerment. Known as an inspirational leader with a supportive yet challenging management style that motivates both employees and the Companies supply channel partners.

Executive Director – Spencer Osborne

Spencer joined the business in 1996 coming from a family synonymous with the office supplies market.

Spencer has a relaxed attitude and approach to business and likes to think in terms of months and years about building relationships and teams.

Professional, hard working, resilient, energetic, Spencer has consistently produced results and played a key role in helping Bates Office to become the leading independent office supplies company in the UK.

Finance Director - Jacki Joseph

Jacki is Michael's sister and joined the business in 1996 following a successful career in the Advertising industry, during which she obtained audit and accounting qualifications.

Jacki successfully monitors financial performance, manages cashflow and budgets along with preparing full accounts and strategic financial planning.

With a small but dedicated team Jacki oversees every aspect of the financial management of Bates Office.

Commercial Director – David Taylor

David is a dedicated, dynamic and versatile Commercial Director with 15 years’ experience in the office supplies arena.

Experienced working with major, high profile clients and supply chain both within the public and private sector on an international scale.

David demonstrates an excellent technical background, utilised to full effect to manage substantial projects to meet demanding goals and targets.

David is proactive, tenacious, articulate and oversees the successful and efficient running of all the Companies locations across the UK.

Director - Mark Garside

Mark is a dedicated and proactive member of the Bates Board, a professional with significant experience in directing sales and business development across the business.

A competent strategist capable of delivering innovative plans and activities designed to facilitate operational performance and process improvement across complex and competitive markets.

Holding the post of Board Member, Mark has over 25 years' experience within our market sector with specialist knowledge and planning on large interior fit-outs.

Mark is devoted and passionate to exceed our customers’ expectations and key to the performance of our northern sites.

Operations Director - Ben Hensby

Bens career started within the stationery industry 17 years ago when he joined his father's firm. Since then he has worked across various different functions before recently being promoted to the Bates board of Directors in the capacity of Operations Director. Bens role encompasses all operational aspects of the business across all of its 6 sites.

Ben Joined the business when Bates acquired Acorn business supplies in January 2014 where Ben was the Managing Director. Ben prides himself on his can do attitude and never likes to be seen to not find a solution. Structure and process are key attributes to how Ben runs the Bates operations and is focussed on customer satisfaction.

Ben also has significant experience of company mergers and acquisitions having over seen and managed several successful acquisitions and mergers before he joined the Bates office team.
